The purpose of the Leave of Absence Specialist is to ensure team members’ leave of absence (LOA) requests are handled with compassion, discretion, and accuracy. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with respect to state and federal requirements, as well as company specific policies. This position is the first point of contact for most of the company onsite or by other means, and an infallible level of discretion and confidentiality is mandatory. This position will maintain records, electronically and physically, regarding a variety of programs. The Leave of Absence Specialist is a position requiring flexibility and adaptability to various initiatives, processes, locations, departments, senior leadership, managers, and all team members and is a key part of a friendly and dynamic HR team. **This position is onsite in Lacey, WA and not managed from afar.***
Compensation: $33-38/hour.

Essential Job Functions:
- Administers all required documentation for all leaves of absence and workers compensation (WC) claims.
- Subject matter expert for knowing the details of applicable leave and worker’s compensation laws and internal procedures.
- Walk team members through complex leave situations, including overlapping FMLA/ADA/PFML or PLO, etc.
- Help team members navigate their workers compensation claims with compassion.
- Manages team member offboarding.
- Cross training to help administer pre-employment process to include drug tests and all required background checks.
- Cross training to help ensure a smooth and engaging weekly new hire orientation and presentation of company materials to new hire classes.
- Creates new hire and replacement security access cards.
- Support and respond to HRIS questions and needs.
- Support and respond to policy and Handbook questions.
- Responsible for the daily maintenance of LOA and WC files.
- Responsible for preparing payroll change sheets to include LOAs, Terminations, and badge access replacements.
- Other duties the manager assigns may include one-time HR projects, events, and/or community and/or team member involvement.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of employment law, state and federal, is essential to this position.
- Experience with state workers compensation (LnI) is highly preferred.
- Effective skills in using Excel spreadsheets, Microsoft Outlook, and other Microsoft suite programs required.
- Ability to file, possess organizational skills, have excellent written and oral communication skills, and be able to make presentations to small groups.
- Ability to counsel employees on a variety of subjects, including company policy, and benefits, and help employees with other issues which may affect their work life.
- Ability to be confidential because of the information this position is exposed to.
- Ability to work well with other employees to foster a respectful and professional work environment.
Education and Experience:
- BA in Human Resources, Business or a relevant field of study or experience equivalent to this education preferred.
- Five years of related Human Resource experience as a Generalist or Leave Specialist.
- Intermediate to advanced skills with MS Office and prior experience with an HRIS system or equivalent.
